The workshop was both the kick-off event for MS-GWaves and a scientific meeting  where the state of the art was discussed and what could be contributed to progress. The scientific basis of the individual projects, progress to be reported so far, and plans for the future have been presented. Presentations of the respective research of our invited international guests Hye-Yeong Chun (Yonsei University, South Korea), Joan Alexander (NorthWest Research Associates, Boulder, USA), David Fritts (GATS, Boulder, USA) and Riwal Plougonven (Ecole Polytechnique, France) have helped to discuss the research plans of MS-GWaves  in an international context. Room for discussions have been given as well in plenary sessions, breakout group sessions and on individual basis. Hye-Yeong Chun and Joan Alexander who have been invited in frame of the gender program contributed to very fruitful discussions about being succesful as a woman in science.
