Methods
Methods employed will be studies of critical processes by laboratory experiments, atmospheric measurements, satellite data analyses, modelling, and theory. The atmospheric measurements and satellite data will be used for development and validation of the theory of gravity waves and their parametrisation. Those will be implemented into the weather-and climate prediction model ICON which is developed jointly by Deutscher Wetterdienst Offenbach and Max-Planck Institut for Meteorology in Hamburg.
